Good Food For Our Children

As parents we spend hours researching schools and activities that will be the right fit for our children, but do we give that much consideration into what were feeding them? Alarming facts show that some of the additives that is allowed in our foods is actually harming us and our children!

From the beginning stages of the first solid foods to what were putting into their school lunches, its our responsibility to know these products so we can eliminate or minimize these from our family's diet.

According to the American Heart Association, today about one in three American kids and teens is overweight or obese; nearly triple the rate in 1963. With good reason, childhood obesity is now the No. 1 health concern among parents in the United States, topping drug abuse and smoking!

A good start would be to eat at home more often and staying away from boxed or already prepared foods. Serving colorful home grown and or locally grown foods when ever possible, and always encourage your children to help plan and help prepare the foods you eat. It's a great time for conversation when everyone is in the kitchen and children like to eat what they make, so make your meal time a family affair. Establishing healthy eating habits in your children is one of the greatest gifts you can give them!

Preliminary results from the Children's Research Foundation Children's Health Study based on 80,000 children ages 6-15 taking a fruit and vegetable whole food supplement for one year showed that:

  • 59% reduced their intake of over-the-counter or prescription medications
  • Academic achievement was dramatically improved
  • Athletic participation increased significantly
  • 58% reported drinking more water
  • 73% consumed less soft drinks or fast food
  • 43% started eating more fruits and vegetables.
