Nutrition Classes

At Unique Ultrasound Redlands we have completed all Instructor certification training for Lifestyle, Exercise, Attitude and Nutrition (L.E.A.N) workshops.

These workshops were developed by William Sears, MD and James Sears, MD. Dr. Sears or Dr. Bill as most people refer to him is a world renowned pediatrician, nutrition expert and author of over 40 books. He is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at UC Irvine and a medical and parenting consultant to Baby Talk and Parenting Magazines.

In our L.E.A.N Start and Essentials classes you will learn:

  • Ways to get your family moving
  • Portion control
  • Why a brainy breakfast is important
  • How to choose a nutritious cereal
  • All about carbs
  • The importance of fiber
  • How to make happy hormones

Dr. James Sears aka Dr. Jim, is a board certified pediatrician and co-host of the 2010 Emmy Award-winning informational talk show, The Doctors. Dr. Jim has co-authored several books with his father, Dr. Bill, and the Children’s Health Specialist for AOL Health’s Medical Advisory Board.

Both Dr. Bill and Dr. Jim are passionate about the vital role that nutrition plays in a variety of medical and behavioral problems.

We are very excited to now be able to offer these classes designed to teach, empower and inform you about better health through nutrition. Our classes will help you take your entire family into better health by showing you easy methods to get your kids to eat good-for-them foods.

We are also very excited about our pregnancy nutrition classes which will show you how to improve your health, as well as the health of your unborn baby.

Nutrition for Children

L.E.A.N. Start
This workshop is a comprehensive six hour (3 two hour classes or 6 one hour classes) workshop for parents of 3 – 12 year olds. It is filled with practical solutions for parents to teach you which foods are best for growing kids, easy label reading techniques, which types of fat kids’ bodies need most and how to make easy and delicious food kids love! It will also cover how to look for ingredients in the food our kids eat that that actually damage brain cells, what the food manufactures ARE NOT telling you and don’t want you to know and what might be making you and your child sick.

L.E.A.N. Essentials
This two hour workshop provides most of what is covered in the L.E.A.N. workshop (see details above) in a condensed version.

What to Eat When Pregnant?

L.E.A.N. Expectations These workshops were developed by world renowned physician Dr. Bill Sears, and Martha Sears, R.N. a leading childbirth educator and breast feeding consultant. Dr. Sears has authored over 40 books including The Birth Book, The Pregnancy Book and The Breastfeed Book. Together their combined experience has created a complete program that is simple, relevant and meets the needs of women in any stage of pregnancy.

This workshop provides pregnant and nursing mothers an opportunity to learn practical ways to positively impact the time before, during and after pregnancy. You’ll also learn about stages of pregnancy and how to create a healthy womb environment for your baby and ways to protect your baby by avoiding certain foods and additives as well as experience optimal nutrition during pregnancy and beyond.

In our L.E.A.N Expectations class has three parts:

  • Postpartum exercise recommendations and options
  • Coping mechanisms and resurces for taking care of mom
